About Cadmizyme-Alpha Syrup
CADMIZYME-ALPHA is a digestive enzyme syrup. Each 5 ml contains diastase (1:1200) 50 mg, alpha-galactosidase 25 mg, pepsin (1:3000) 10 mg and lipase 10 mg. Together these enzymes help break down carbohydrates, protein and fat, easing indigestion, gas and bloating after meals.
Shake the bottle well and take it with or just after your main meals, as your doctor advises. It is usually well tolerated. It is a nutritional supplement rather than a medicine, and it contains sorbitol, which can have a laxative effect.
Therapy category: Digestive enzyme preparation.
Uses of Cadmizyme-Alpha Syrup
- Supports digestion of carbohydrates, starch, protein and fat
- Gas and bloating associated with indigestion
Benefits of Cadmizyme-Alpha Syrup
Digestion of carbohydrates, protein and fat
Diastase breaks down starch into simple sugars, pepsin helps digest protein in the stomach, and lipase helps break down fat. This can help when digestion is slow or a meal is heavy, easing discomfort and fullness.
Gas and bloating
Foods such as beans, lentils, cabbage and onions contain complex sugars that the gut cannot digest on its own. Bacteria in the bowel then ferment them, producing gas. Alpha-galactosidase breaks these sugars down before they reach the bowel, helping to reduce gas and bloating.
Side effects of Cadmizyme-Alpha Syrup
Most side effects are mild and settle as your body adjusts. Tell your doctor if they continue or worry you.
- Mild stomach discomfort or nausea
- Loose stools or diarrhoea, as sorbitol can have a laxative effect
- Rarely, allergic reactions such as rash or itching
How to take Cadmizyme-Alpha Syrup
Shake the bottle well before use. Take the dose your doctor advises, usually with or immediately after your main meals, using the measuring cup provided. Children should take it only under medical supervision.
How Cadmizyme-Alpha Syrup works
Digestive enzymes speed up the breakdown of food into smaller parts that the body can absorb. Diastase, a type of amylase, breaks down starch, pepsin breaks down protein, and lipase breaks down fat. Alpha-galactosidase breaks down the complex sugars in beans, lentils and some vegetables that would otherwise ferment in the gut and cause gas.
