About Esorusk-LS Capsule
ESORUSK-LS capsules combine esomeprazole 40 mg, which reduces stomach acid, with levosulpiride 75 mg in sustained-release form, which helps the stomach empty and move food along. It is used to treat gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and indigestion, relieving heartburn, acid regurgitation, bloating and early fullness.
Take one capsule on an empty stomach, preferably in the morning about an hour before a meal, exactly as your doctor prescribes. It can cause drowsiness, so avoid alcohol and take care when driving. It must not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Therapy category: Gastrointestinal care.
Uses of Esorusk-LS Capsule
- Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD), including heartburn and acid regurgitation
- Indigestion (dyspepsia) with bloating and early fullness caused by slow stomach emptying
Benefits of Esorusk-LS Capsule
Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
In GERD, stomach acid flows back into the food pipe, causing heartburn and irritation. Esomeprazole lowers acid production, relieving symptoms and allowing the food pipe to heal. Levosulpiride helps the stomach empty faster, so less acid is pushed back up. Your doctor will decide how long you need to take it.
Indigestion with slow stomach emptying
When the stomach empties slowly, food stays longer and causes bloating, early fullness, nausea and discomfort. Levosulpiride improves the movement of the stomach and gut to ease these symptoms, while esomeprazole reduces acid-related pain.
Side effects of Esorusk-LS Capsule
Most side effects are mild and settle as your body adjusts. Tell your doctor if they continue or worry you.
- Drowsiness or sluggishness
- Headache
- Diarrhoea, constipation, wind or abdominal pain
- Nausea or vomiting
- Breast swelling or tenderness, milk discharge or changes to periods (caused by raised prolactin)
- Rarely, tremor, stiffness or abnormal movements
How to take Esorusk-LS Capsule
Take this medicine in the dose and for the length of time your doctor advises. Swallow the capsule whole on an empty stomach, preferably in the morning about an hour before a meal. Do not chew, crush or open it.
How Esorusk-LS Capsule works
ESORUSK-LS combines two medicines. Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that blocks the pumps in the stomach lining that produce acid. Levosulpiride blocks dopamine receptors in the gut, which increases the movement of the stomach and intestines, helping food pass through and reducing reflux, bloating and nausea. The sustained-release form releases levosulpiride gradually through the day.

Warnings
- Levosulpiride can raise prolactin levels, which may cause breast enlargement or tenderness, milk discharge, period changes or reduced sex drive. These usually reverse when treatment stops.
- Rarely it can cause tremor, stiffness or abnormal movements. It can also affect heart rhythm (QT prolongation), especially with other medicines that do the same.
- Stop taking it and get urgent medical help if you develop a high fever with muscle stiffness, confusion or sweating. These can be signs of a rare but serious reaction (neuroleptic malignant syndrome).
- Use with care in older people, especially those with dementia, and in people at risk of blood clots.
- Long-term use of esomeprazole, especially beyond 3 months, may lower magnesium and vitamin B12 levels and increase the risk of bone fractures.
Contraindications
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Epilepsy, mania or bipolar disorder
- Phaeochromocytoma (an adrenal gland tumour), because of the risk of a dangerous rise in blood pressure
- Bleeding, blockage or perforation of the stomach or intestines
- Breast cancer or a prolactin-secreting pituitary tumour (prolactinoma)
- Use with the HIV medicine nelfinavir
- Allergy to esomeprazole, similar acid-reducing medicines, levosulpiride or any other ingredient
Important interactions
- Alcohol, sleeping tablets, strong painkillers and other medicines that cause drowsiness can increase sleepiness.
- Medicines that affect heart rhythm, or that lower potassium or magnesium (such as some water tablets), should be avoided with levosulpiride.
- Anticholinergic medicines and opioid painkillers can reduce levosulpiride's effect on the gut.
- Esomeprazole can reduce the effect of clopidogrel, so the two should not be used together.
- Esomeprazole can change the levels of warfarin, methotrexate, digoxin, phenytoin and diazepam, and reduces the absorption of ketoconazole, itraconazole and atazanavir.
