It provides nutritional support for liver health, including alongside medical treatment for liver conditions.

Therapy category: Liver health supplement.

Uses of Heptaram Tablet

  • Nutritional support for liver health
  • Supportive nutrition alongside medical treatment in hepatitis, alcohol-related liver disease and cirrhosis

Benefits of Heptaram Tablet

Nutritional support for liver health

Silymarin is an antioxidant from milk thistle that has been studied for protecting liver cells, although results in liver disease have been mixed. N-acetylcysteine helps the body make glutathione, one of the liver's own antioxidants, while lecithin supplies phospholipids used in cell membranes.

Supportive nutrition in liver conditions

People with liver disease often have low levels of B vitamins, vitamin D, zinc and other nutrients. This tablet helps replace them, while L-ornithine takes part in clearing ammonia and L-carnitine helps cells use fat for energy. It should be used alongside, not instead of, your doctor's treatment.

Side effects of Heptaram Tablet

Most side effects are mild and settle as your body adjusts. Tell your doctor if they continue or worry you.

  • Nausea, bloating or stomach upset
  • Diarrhoea or loose stools
  • Headache
  • Rarely, allergic reactions such as rash or itching

How to take Heptaram Tablet

Take one tablet twice a day, or as your doctor or dietician advises, preferably after meals. Swallow it whole with water. Do not take more than the recommended daily amount.

How Heptaram Tablet works

Silymarin, from milk thistle seeds, is an antioxidant thought to help protect liver cells from toxins. N-acetylcysteine is used by the body to make glutathione, an important antioxidant in the liver. L-ornithine helps the liver convert ammonia into urea, and L-carnitine carries fatty acids into cells to be used for energy. Lecithin supplies phospholipids, and the vitamins and zinc support normal metabolism and immune function.
