About Sizepod-100 Dry Syrup
SIZEPOD-100 is a dry syrup for children containing cefpodoxime 100 mg per 5 ml (as cefpodoxime proxetil), a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. The powder is mixed with water to make 30 ml of oral suspension. It is used to treat bacterial infections of the ear, throat, tonsils, sinuses and chest.
Give it exactly as your child's doctor prescribes, usually twice a day, and finish the full course even if your child feels better. The most common side effects are diarrhoea, nappy rash and vomiting. Tell the doctor if your child has ever had an allergic reaction to penicillin or any other antibiotic.

How to take Sizepod-100 Dry Syrup
Shake the bottle to loosen the powder, then add the sterile water supplied in the pack up to the ring mark on the bottle and shake well. Shake well again before each dose, and measure it with the cup or syringe provided rather than a kitchen spoon. It can be given with or without food, though giving it with food may reduce stomach upset. Keep the mixed suspension in a refrigerator, use it within 4 days, and throw away any medicine left after that.
How Sizepod-100 Dry Syrup works
Cefpodoxime is a cephalosporin antibiotic. Taken by mouth, it is absorbed and converted into its active form, which stops bacteria from building their protective cell walls, so they die. It works against bacteria, not viruses, so it will not help colds or flu.

Warnings
- Tell the doctor if your child has ever had an allergic reaction to penicillin. Some people allergic to penicillin also react to cephalosporins, so after a severe reaction the doctor may choose a different antibiotic.
- Antibiotics can cause a serious bowel infection (Clostridioides difficile), which can appear up to two months after treatment. See a doctor for severe or persistent diarrhoea.
- In children with kidney problems the dose must be adjusted, as the medicine can build up.
- Using antibiotics when they are not needed, or stopping early, encourages resistant bacteria.
Contraindications
- Allergy to cefpodoxime or any other cephalosporin antibiotic
Important interactions
- Antacids and acid-reducing medicines such as ranitidine or famotidine reduce absorption. Give them at least 2 hours apart.
- Probenecid increases cefpodoxime levels in the blood.
- Medicines that can harm the kidneys need closer monitoring when taken with it.
